Comparison of the effects of harmala seed powder and salinomycin coccidiostate on the performance and extent of OPG in broiler chicks

Abstract :
To assess and compare of the effect of harmala seed with coccidiostat on broiler performance and OPG was performed an experiment in a completely randomized design with four treatments and four replications for each treatment. 192 day-old chicks (Ross 308) were randomly assigned to four treatments. The diets included basal diet as control, the diet containing 200 grams per tonne coccidiostate Salinomycine (12%) and the diets containing 0.2 % and 0.4% harmala seed powder. The results showed significant positive impact (p< 0.05) of coccidiostatic and 0.2% harmala seed on functional traits. The highest daily weight gain (51 gr), body weight (2180 gr) and feed intake (95.87 g) were related to the dite contain coccidiostat. Harmala seed at 0.2 percent level also increased live weight and improved FCR. The minimum FCR (1.82) was related to 0.2% harmala Group. The using of 0.4% harmala seed and coccidiostat decrease the number of OPG on 30 days of age. The results of this experiment showed that 0.2% harmala seed powder has a positive effect on performance parameters and 0.4% of it decreased the number of OPG. Because of the negative impact of 0.4% level on performance parameters, it can not be recommended for this purpose.
