Exploring the impact of media on children and adolescents’ delinquency: a comparison of two groups of the Correction and Rehabilitation Center patients and normal citizen aged 13-18 years in Shiraz

Abstract :
Adolescents’ delinquency along with various social, economic, mental and physical problems is important for Iranian society. As adolescents are the active population so, their physical and mental health must be taken into serious consideration. Accordingly, the present study aims to investigate the role of media on the adolescents’ delinquency. It is a type of quantitative study using a questionnaire to collect the required data. The population consists of two groups of the Correction and RehabilitationCenter patients of Shiraz city and a number of non-patient citizens aged 13-18 years. Through the stratification sampling method 55 patents and 55 non-patients were selected. The data were analyzed via the SPSS software. the results shows that getting influenced by negative characters of movies, using satellite for entrainment and watching CDs negatively associate to delinquency on both groups. Also, using the internet and watching thrillers revealed a significant relationship with delinquency of the patients. However, no significant association exists between watching movies and scientific TV shows among non-patients. Moreover, no significant relationship was found between watching satellite channels and delinquency.
