Abstract :
This research was carried out with the aim of investigating the concentration of heavy metals, mercury, lead and cadmium in water resources of Yazd for a period of 9 months (August 2013 to April 2014). A total of 28 water samples were taken from 28 wells and heavy metals were measured by atomic absorption of graphite furnace. According to the results, the mean of mercury, lead, and cadmium elements was measured 0, 0.0011, 0.0004 respectively, and then compared to global standards for human consumption. The results of this study showed that the concentrations of heavy metals of mercury, lead and cadmium in the samples tested were lower than the maximum permitted standard WHO and did not threaten the health of the area under study. But due to the increasing population growth and the increase in the number of infections and diseases, changes in the concentration of heavy metals may occur in the future. Therefore, it is essential to keep track of heavy elements continuously.
