The use of structural equation model in the evaluation of investors' behavioral biases during the epidemic of corona disease

Abstract :

Due to the fact that the stock market deals with the mass of small capitals of the society, the numerous investment opportunities in the Iranian stock market, the lack of relevant knowledge of most of the individual investors and the impact of social crises such as the outbreak of the Corona disease on the decision process, in the current study, the behavior biases of investors in choosing a stock portfolio during the outbreak of Corona virus and the factors influencing them were identified. For this purpose, first, the effective factors were identified through previous studies and opinion polls from experts (24 people who were selected by snowball method) based on the Delphi technique, and then using the data obtained from the distribution of a questionnaire among a random sample of shareholders of Tehran Stock Exchange market (384 people) and structural equation modeling were validated. The results showed that following the crowd, under-reacting, paying too much attention to rumors, short-sightedness, tendency effect, innovation and loss aversion are the most common behavioral biases of investors of Iranian stock market in selection of the stock portfolio during the outbreak of the Corona disease and 32 factors in four main groups including: individual characteristics, decision-making conditions, the state of companies and macro conditions of the country are effective on the behavioral biases of market investors of Iranian stocks in choosing a stock portfolio during the outbreak of the Corona virus.
