Evaluating the Success of Isfahan Traffic Plan as One of the (TDM) Policies to Achieve Sustainable Urban Development

Abstract :

The increase in urban population has led to the significant growth of transportation and thus, many issues and challenges have emerged in metropolises. To solve these issues, the travel demand management approach has been proposed. The aim of this approach is to reduce the negative effects of using cars, including traffic congestion, reducing safety, increasing environmental pollution, reducing the livability and quality of cities, so it is clear that the implementation of policies of this approach helps to achieve the goals of sustainable urban development. However, if the implementation principles are not followed properly, not only the desired results will not be achieved, but also new problems will arise. The metropolis of Isfahan is not exempted from this rule. Meanwhile, more than a decade has passed since the implementation of the traffic plan in the city of Isfahan, which is one of the policies of the travel demand management approach. This research seeks to answer the question of how successful the implementation of Isfahan's traffic plan has been in achieving the goals of sustainable urban development. Therefore, first the components and parameters were identified and then the status of Isfahan city traffic plan was evaluated. For this purpose, using the AHP method, the importance of the parameters was determined, and it was evaluated and analyzed using GIS spatial analysis. The method of library study, field observation and questionnaire distribution was used to collect data and single sample T-test was used for statistical evaluation. In the end, the results showed that the traffic plan of Isfahan city has not achieved enough success to achieve the goals of sustainable urban development.
