Abstract :

In this article, the quality of textual coherence in the manuscript of Qustas al-Atbai by Noor al-Din Mohammad Abdallah Shirazi has been examined based on Michael Halliday's theory of textual coherence. Medical manuscripts are valuable not only for their scientific content, but also for their linguistic structure and textual coherence. This research has been done with the aim of analyzing grammatical and lexical coherence tools used in the text and evaluating the quality of this coherence. The research method includes the qualitative content analysis of the manuscript and the use of Holliday's textual coherence model. First, the text of the manuscript was carefully studied and the tools of textual coherence were identified. Then, using Halliday's theory, these tools, analysis and quality of text coherence were evaluated. The results show that Nuruddin Mohammad Abdallah Shirazi has succeeded in creating a coherent and understandable text by using various tools of grammatical and lexical coherence. Also, comparative studies with other contemporary medical texts and analysis of historical and cultural influences on textual coherence show significant similarities and differences. This research shows that textual coherence in old manuscripts, especially in medical texts, plays an important role in the correct understanding and interpretation of these texts. The results of this research can be used as a basis for further research in the fields of linguistics, history and culture, as well as in the reconstruction and preservation of historical texts.
