An analysis of the sustainable social development of urban areas with an emphasis on social capital (Case study: 5 Regions of Urmia)

Abstract :

Today, due to the increase in the urbanization population and the subsequent creation of new issues and problems, the need to pay attention to sustainable social development is becoming more and more visible, especially considering recent events such as the Coronavirus disease, which has caused the formation of a new type of urbanization. The main goal of this research is to analyze the sustainable social development of urban areas with an emphasis on social capital in the 5 regions of Urmia. The current research is based on the practical purpose and descriptive method. Data collection has been done in two ways: library and field collection. The data collection tool is in several ways: observation, questionnaire (formation of the matrix), and data collection. The collected information has been quantitatively analyzed through the DEMATEL multi-criteria decision-making methods and the ordinal priority method (OPA) multi-criteria decision-making methods. In order to collect the data for the research, 10 experts have been used purposefully and based on the studied area. The findings of this research show that according to the DEMATEL model, the spatial justice criterion with the value (D) of 4.344 is the most effective criterion, the social capital criterion with the value of (R) of 4.596 is the most effective criterion and the social capital criterion with the value of (D+R) 8.295 has obtained the most correlation with other criteria, also two criteria of spatial justice and social cohesion as the cause and the criteria of identity and sense of belonging, safety, and security, quality of life and social capital as the disability. Also, the results of the OPA model indicate that the criterion of social capital has won first place in the ranking of criteria. Also, in the ranking of the 5 regions of Urmia, Region 4 of Urmia has gained the first rank, and Region 2 of Urmia has gained the fifth rank.
