Abstract :
The link and merge of Persian poetry and the art of music, stemming from the long-standing alliance with these two cultural elements, have been the predominant features of the ancient history of Iran, flowing through all epochs of Persian poetry. The poets of Indian style draw upon various sciences to create fresh and profound themes, among which music is one of the most commonly employed. Seydi Tehrani is one of the witty and concise poets of this style, who in the formation of his themes, drops hints and terminologies about various sciences, including music. In this study, we have examined the collection of poems written by this poet to identify the musical terms used therein, using a Library Research Method and an Analytical Descriptive Approach to elucidate their function in his poetry. Upon tabulating and analyzing the verses, the results indicate that while Seydi has indeed paid attention to musical terminology in his thematic elaborations and has been affected by the music of his time, this effect has not been translated into his linguistic peculiarities. As evident from the frequency of extracted terms, Seydi has allocated only 14.2% of his themes, encompassing 58 verses out of 2700 verses in his collection, to musical terminology. Furthermore, the diverse literary devices observed in this poet's poems are mostly employed in the service of rich themes.
