Satisfaction Evaluation of the Doctors and Nurses in the Treatment of Patients with Fungal Infections by Amphotericin B in Two Liposomal and Lipid Forms

Abstract :

Introduction: Amphotericin B is one of the first-line drugs for invasive fungal infections. The use of some pharmaceutical forms of this drug has become very common. In the present study, the level of satisfaction of doctors and also nurses was evaluated from various aspects on liposomal and lipid forms.

Methods: The study population was doctors and also nurses of the infectious department of some hospitals in Tehran. The level of satisfaction was collected using a designed a validated questionnaire.

Results: Both groups of treatment staff were relatively satisfied with both pharmaceutical forms of amphotericin B. The level of satisfaction with the liposomal form was much higher than the lipid form in many aspects. Also, full satisfaction of doctors was more than nurses. It was also observed that the doctors considered the liposomal form of the drug to be preferable compare to the lipid form and indicated that the patient should use the liposomal form due to the lack of medicine and history of kidney and liver problems.

Conclusion: The findings show that in terms of drug effectiveness and safety as well as the prevention of drug side effects, the use of liposomal form is preferred compare to lipid form, and according to both groups of treatment staff, this approach improves the quality of life of patients and mortality decreases. The results can become the basis for better policy making by the responsible organizations in order to make more effective and better-quality forms of this medicine available to patient.
