Abstract :

This research employs a descriptive-analytical method to examine the philosophical and mystical thoughts of Annemarie Schimmel in her poetic collection Naghmeh-ye-Ney, comparing them with Molana’s ideas through an exploration of selected parables. The study aims to highlight Schimmel’s intellectual and mystical influences derived from Molana's wisdom and spirituality. The findings indicate that Schimmel, in Naghmeh-ye-Ney, which comprises 17 mystical and romantic ghazals, is deeply inspired by Molana’s intellectual and linguistic legacy. She borrows extensively from this eminent 13th-century Persian mystic and poet, adorning her work with symbols and metaphors previously central to his teachings. Among the recurring parables used by Schimmel to express her beliefs are the sea, the shell, waves, breeze, garden (flowers), spring, earth, and similar elements. The focal point of Schimmel's thoughts, conveyed through these symbols, revolves around the relationship between humanity and the Creator (based on the principle of “unity of existence”), the sorrow of the soul's exile (nostalgia), and the quest to overcome this sorrow to achieve eternal tranquility.
