Abstract :
Given that the contemporary world is becoming increasingly more complicated, the acquisition of social skills related to social development become ever more important so that today’s youth can understand and play their social roles more responsibly. Also, given the importance of the role of parents in the socialization process of their children, this article aims to study the relationship between Parents’ social and cultural capitals and Pupils’ social skills in the city of Shahreza. Coleman’s social capital theory and Bourdieu’s cultural capital theory were used as the theoretical framework. The research population consisted of all primary and secondary students of shahreza in age range of 11-14, of which using Cochran’s formula, 383 individuals were chosen as the sample via a cluster and accidental sampling technique. The research tool had face validity and reliability alpha for parents’ social and cultural capitals was 0.87 and for children’s social skills was 0.89. The results showed that both parents’ social and cultural capitals and children’s social skills were at the medium level. It was also shown that social skills were significantly related to family structure (r= 0.38), parents’ relations with children (r= 0.38), parental supervision (r= 0.30), and parental involvement with children’s educational activities (r= 0.52). All independent variables together could explain around 31 percent of the variations of the dependent variable.
