Abstract :
Ferdowsi's Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) is the greatest and the most valuable Iranian national epic. Despite its simple-looking appearance, the epic has a great and complicated depth so that, far all the ongoing glosses and reports of the scholars of Shahnameh, there is no unanimous consent on many of its couplets. In this study subsequent to analyzing some of the couplets in the version edited by Jalal Khaleghi Motlagh and recounting the perspectives of the scholars of the epic, it was revealed that the record of some couplets is far from clear. This ambiguity emanates from either lack of attention to the context or from the wrong or unambiguous record of a word or phrase in the couplets. Thus in we explored critically how some couplets have been recorded and, based on numerous pieces of evidence, a more appropriate spelling was suggested. So after critically analyzing the reports of some couplets and representing the incongruities, we have sought to present a more proper interpretation by drawing on clues within and outside the text of the work.
