Abstract :
- Nanocomposite samples with relative density more than 99% are fabricated successfully using mechanical milling, cold pressing, and hot extrusion processes.
- Relative density of the samples decreases less than 1% as the content of SiC nano reinforcements increases to 3 vol%.
- Both the tensile strength and Vickers micro-hardness of the samples improve by about 50% after adding 3 vol% SiC reinforcement.
- The improvement of tensile strength may be attributed to uniform dispersion of SiC nano particles between Al micro particles and also some strengthening mechanisms like the Orowan and load bearing effects.
- Variation of Vickers micro-hardness agrees well with variation of the yield strength. This agreement verifies also the Tabor equation.
