Abstract :

This descriptive and analytical research aimed to analyze the content of 4th and 5th grades elementary science books based on Merrill instructional objectives. To do so, the 4th and 5th grades elementary textbooks of natural sciences as well as the teacher’s manuals were analyzed the statistical sample and the statistical population_ science textbooks of 4th and 5th grades_ were the same. The most important conclusions of analysis are as follow: a) Considering problem solving and procedure aspects of functional sciences in books, some attention is given to functional sciences. b) Access to innovation and discovery procedure should be emphasized more than other functions for the creation of problem solving capacity in students. c) There are some problems regarding design, for the correction of which some suggestions have been proposed to the authors of natural science books at the end of the survey.
