The effectiveness of emotion-oriented therapy on improving relationships and mental health of young couples

Abstract :
Abstract Purpose: The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of emotion-oriented therapy on improving relationships and mental health of young couples in Zarand city. Method: The research method was semi-experimental with experimental and control groups. The statistical population of this research included all young couples between 20 and 40 years of age who referred to counseling centers in Zarand city in 2022. 28 couples (56 people) were selected as available and were randomly replaced in two experimental and control groups by lottery method. Emotion-oriented therapy intervention was conducted in 10 weekly sessions for 90 minutes. Goldberg's (1963) mental health questionnaire and Christensen and Salawi's (1984) communication patterns were used to collect data. In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistics tests (mean and standard deviation) and univariate covariance analysis were used with SPSS version 24 software. Results: The results showed that emotional therapy had an effect on improving relationships and mental health of young couples (P<0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of this research, it is suggested to use emotion-oriented therapy in improving relationships and increasing mental health of young couples.
