The Relationship between Teachers’ Out-Looking Hope and Students’ Happiness as well as Self-Efficacy

Abstract :
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between out-looking hope of teachers and happiness as well as self-efficacy of students. The study was a co-relational research. The population included 285 teachers and 57800 female students among the guidance schools of Ghaemshaher in the academic year 2010-2011. A sample of 381 guidance-school students was selected randomly through using the Kerjeci & Morgan cluster table. Using cluster sampling, ten schools were selected randomly from among 45 females’ schools from four main regions of the city. In each school, three grades were selected, and in each grade the questionnaires were distributed based on the number of students in the class. 381 students filled the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient = 0.98) and Sherer Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient = 0.79), and for every ten students, one teacher in each class filled the Snyder Hope Scale (Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient 0.89). The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient. The results indicated that teachers’ out-looking hope was correlated to students’ happiness and self-efficacy, but there was no meaningful relationship between happiness and self-efficacy of the students. The study showed that the out-looking hope of the participant teachers was an effective factor in the happiness and self-efficacy of the participant students. In other words, teachers’ out-looking hope indirectly increased happiness, motivation and belief changes in students.
