Evaluation Health Anxiety in Patients That Refer to Internal Clinics

Abstract :
Actual physical illness may be a major vulnerability factor in promoting health anxiety, and there is evidence of this from general medical setting to determination the health anxiety in Iranian patients that refer to medical clinics, this study was done. In this descriptive- comparative study, sample contains 212 patients attending to 6 clinics at two general hospital of Shahid Beheshti university of medical sciences were evaluated. After informing consent, the health anxiety inventory (short form) and demographic question air were administered to patients. We used one way ANOVA test to determine differences in outcomes among groups. The data were analysed by SPSS 19 software. The present study included 65 (30.7%) male and 147 (60.3%) female with mean age 38.64 (SD=12.7). There were no significant difference between two sexes in health anxiety scores. The results of one way ANOVA test for comparison among six groups showed significant difference in health anxiety in patients. Our results indicated significant difference in health anxiety scores in medical patients.
