Experimental study of fracture mechanics in the aluminum matrix composites containing Fifteen percent silicon carbide particles

چکیده مقاله :

In this investigation ‚the fracture toughness of A356 containing15%SiC composite was studied. Al/SiC composites have been considered because of their mechanical and erosion properties .Low fracture toughness in Al/SiC as compared with Aluminium alloys is one of its disadvantage. In this study at first A356 alloy was melted in a smelting electrical furnace then poured into the mould. A356-15% SiC were composed by melting method and mixing continuously (in order not to precipitate SiC to the bottom) in the presence of a nature gas. The melt was poured in a metallic mould, then specimens were cut from the products bars in order to calculate fracture toughness according to ASTM. Obtained results for different specimens compared together. In this study Crack Opening Displacement (COD) is used to determine fracture toughness rate. KIcwas calculated in composites and compared with that of base alloy. As a result KIcin composite samples were decreased significantly, debris, cracks, gas cavity.

چکیده انگلیسی:

در این تحقیق چقرمگی شکست کامپوزیت 356A حاوی پانزده درصد از ذرات کاربید سیلیسیم مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است. کامپوزیتهای آلومینیم- سیلیسیم به دلیل خواص سایشی و مکانیکی مناسب مورد توجه‌اند. یکی از نقاط ضعف این کامپوزیتها پائین بودن چقرمگی شکست آنها نسبت به آلیاژهای آلومینیوم است. برای انجام این تحقیق ابتدا 356Aدر کوره مقاومتی ذوب و در داخل قالب فلزی ریخته‌گری شد. سپس کامپوزیت آلومینیم- سیلیسیم به روش ذوب در کوره الکتریکی در حضور گاز خنثی و همزدن مذاب جهت جلوگیری از پدیده جدایش ذرات کاربید سیلیسیم و ریخته‌گری در قالب فلزی تهیه شد. از شمش‌ه‌ای به‌دست آمده نمونه‌های سپس آزمون چقرمگی شکست مطابق با استاندارد  ASTMآماده شدند. چقرمگی نمونه‌ها اندازه‌گیری شده و با هم مقایسه شد. در این مقاله برای چقرمگی شکست، مقدار رشد ترک در اثر بار اعمالی مقایسه شده است. فاکتور چقرمگی شکست کامپوزیت و آلیاژ اصلی محاسبه شده و با هم مقایسه شده است و نشان داده شده است که چقرمگی شکست نمونه‌های کامپوزیتی کاهش یافته است. همچنین بررسی ریزساختار نشانگر وجود حفره گازی و ترک است که این موارد عامل کاهش چقرمگی است.
