Introduction: The aim of study was to compare the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive group therapy and cognitive behavioral group therapy on reducing severity of guilt sense, suicidal thoughts and hopelessness in major depression patients. Method: This is an experimental study with pre-test and post-test and follow up with experimental and control groups. The study population consisted of all patients with MDD in Shiraz. Participants were (n=60) patients with MDD. They were selected by targeted sampling and randomly assigned to MBCT (n=20), CBT (n=20), and control group (n=20). Measurement: Zung Williams’s inventory, Beck-II depression inventory, Beck suicide scale, Beck hopelessness scale, Mosher guilt sense scale. Results: MBCT is more effective for suicidal thoughts and guilt feeling components. MBCT and CBT interventions have the same significance level in the case of hopelessness. Conclusion: MBCT could be main therapy in reducing severity of hopelessness, guit sense and suicidal thoughts in paitents with MDD.
