4 - Relationships between Species Diversity and Biomass in Mountainous Habitats in Zagros Rangeland (Case Study: Baneh, Kurdistan, Iran)Journal of Rangeland Science , العدد 5 , السنة 7 , پاییز 2017Species diversity, richness and biomasses (aboveground biomass) and their relationships are the key variables of ecosystems. This study was conducted to determine the relationship of Species Diversity (SD) and Species Richness (SR) with Above-Ground Biomass (AGB) at a local scale at 5 different habitats (shrubland, forbland, grassland, shrub-forbland and forb-shrubland) in Zagros mountains in west of Iran (2015). For each habitat, 50 plots (2m2) were determined. SD was estimated by Shannon–Wiener’s index, SR was defined as the number of species per plot and AGB was detected per unit of area (gm-2). Results indicated that all of relationship patterns existed in these habitats. The unimodal relationship was found in shrub-forbland and forb-shrubland whereas the relationship of SD/SR vs.AGB in shrubland was linear and negative, and in forbland and grassland, it was positive. There were many complex and variable mechanisms dealing with the SD/SR vs. AGB relationship. The unimodal relationship indicates that SR and SD peaked at intermediate levels of AGB, and it is an inherent attribute of the spatially heterogeneous habitats affected by life forms, micro-sites, facilitation and competition. The positive linear was related to positive response of SD, SR and AGB to environmental factors or because of any reason (grazing, disturbance level…), the AGB may not reach to the highest possible level; thus, it may only show a positive relationship. When SD and AGB are affected in the opposite directions by environmental factors such as soil fertility, negative patterns may be caused. The negative pattern represents short gradients indicating a similar species composition among plots. Greater R2 in SD vs. AGB than SR vs. AGB at all habitats showed that evenness and richness (components of SD) are more important than just SR; thus, SD vs. AGB relationship is better and more reliable to predict the variations (SD and AGB). تفاصيل المقالة -

5 - Variation of Plant Functional Groups along Livestock Grazing Gradient in Semi-steppe Rangelands (Case Study: Tangsayad Rangelands of Chaharmahal Bakhtiari Province, Iran)Journal of Rangeland Science , العدد 1 , السنة 8 , زمستان 2018Assessment and monitoring of rangeland in different grazing managements seems necessary to manage rangelands. The plant functional groups can be used as appropriate responders for rangelands condition and management. Therefore, this study was performedand aimed to determine the most important traits that are influenced by rangeland variation and management. In order to this, three areas along a grazing gradient including national parks, protected area and free grazing were selected inTangsayad rangelands of Chaharmahal Bakhtiari Province, Iran in 2015. A 100 m transect was established randomly in each site and within it five plots of 4 m2 area at 20 m intervals along transects were determined systematically. Plant species were identified and vegetation cover was recorded in each plot. The number and size of plots and transects were determined regarding to semi-arid rangeland sampling guidelines as well as the dimension of dominant plant species in plant community. Finally, some traits as leaf dimension, plant biomass and cover of species were measured. The results showed that the traits such as leaf length, leaf width, leaf area and leaf weight, grass growth forms and life forms of Hemicryptophyes and Geophytes had significant differences at least in one of three grazing managements sites (P<0/05). Also Principal Component Analyses (PCA) showed that traits as yield, overall weight of plants and perennial plants had high correlation with the first component and the traits such as leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, Hemicryptophyes had also high correlation with the second component. In general conclusion; leaf traits as leaf length, leaf width, leaf area and leaf weight, grass growth form, Hemicryptophytes and Geophytes life forms were introduced as good indicators for assessing and monitoring of grazing management. تفاصيل المقالة -

6 - Effect of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) on the Seed Germination, Seedling Growth and Photosynthetic Pigments of Astragalus caragana under Drought StressJournal of Rangeland Science , العدد 5 , السنة 9 , پاییز 2019Drought stress is one of the most important factors limiting plant growth all around the world. Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) can significantly reduce drought stress effects on plants growth. This study was aimed to investigate the influence of PGPR (inoculation by Azospirillum lipoferum, Azotobacter chroococcum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacillus cereus) on seed germination, seedling growth and photosynthetic pigments of Astragalus caragana under four levels of drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.4, -0.8 MPa) in laboratory conditions in Shahrekord University, Iran, 2017. Among the four PGPR treatments, A. chroococcum was eliminated because seeds failed to germinate and were identified as agent pathogenies. The results showed that inoculation by PGPR had a significant effect on all germination traits except shoot length. The effect of drought stress was significant on all traits expect mean germination time. The PGPR by drought stress interaction effect was significant on shoot length, embryonic leaf and seedling fresh weight, embryonic leaf and seedling dry weight, and root length. The highest and lowest seed germination indices and seedling length were related to first (control and -0.2 MPa) and second (-0.4, -0.8 MPa) levels of drought stress, respectively. It was concluded that P. aeruginosa was more effective in embryonic leaf fresh weight (0 and -0.2 MPa), embryonic leaf and seedling dry weight (total levels of drought stress); B. cereus (0 MPa) and A. lipoferum (0, -0.2, and -0.4 MPa) showed relatively better performance on root length and B. cereus (0 MPa), A. lipoferum (total levels of drought stress) and P. aeruginosa(-0.2 and -0.4 MPa; total levels of drought stress, respectively) improved growth of shoot and seedling fresh weight of the Astragalus caragana. تفاصيل المقالة
