Abstract :
The aim of the present study was to investigate the mediating role of personality traits in the relationship between brain-behavioral systems and internet addiction in college students. The current research was descriptive and correlational. The current research population was all students studying in the non-profit Ashrafi University of Isfahani in 1401. Among the students of these universities, 346 students, based on the available sampling, completed the information required by Gary Wilson's personality questionnaire (1989), Cloninger's temperament and personality questionnaire (1994) and Young's Internet addiction questionnaire (1998). Statistical analysis was done using structural equation modeling. The findings showed that persistence and novelty seeking have a positive effect and harm avoidance has a negative effect on Internet addiction. The relationship between reward dependency and Internet addiction was not significant. The direct effect of behavioral inhibition systems with Internet addiction is 0.371 and the direct effect of behavioral activation systems with Internet addiction is -0.382 and both are significant at the 0.01% level. Also, the indirect effect of behavioral inhibition and behavioral activator systems through personality dimensions of nature was significant. The indirect relationship of behavioral activation on Internet addiction was -0.146 and the indirect relationship of behavioral inhibition on Internet addiction was +0.137. Among the personality dimensions of temprament, the partial mediating role of persistence was confirmed.
