Abstract :
One of the most important concepts in the realm of international knowledge and politics is the keyword of »power«. This component has always been one of the main elements in the theories of international relationships that gradually and conceptually has been changed over time Today, due to different paradigms and variables like the emergence of new powers in international system, non-governmental organization (NGO) and transnational companies, development and expansion of technologies, cyber space, free commerce, increasing national, local and global relations in different levels and so on. the concepts of power has developed broadly and also it has shifted from hard approach to soft and smart power. As a result, the way power and its tools is understood has changed and has become more complicated. Due to the transition of the concept of power, the strategic and geopolitical situation of Iran, particularly its connection to free oceans through Persian Golf, Iran sets its defense strategies in this region according to the requirements of time and place. this paper tries to analyze the relation between the transition of power and its influence on Iran's defense strategies in Persian Gulf through using descriptive-analytical method and library and internet – based sources. results show that Islamic republic of Iran, according to the transition of the concept of power, has attempted to utilize its defense strategies wisely in the form of combination of hard and soft powers based on existing realities Keywords: Iran, Persian Golf, defense strategies, hard power, soft power, smart power,
