Abstract :
Burnout is a common problem among staff, and can have negative effects on well-being of them, their physical and mental health and the expences of organizations. This descriptive study was carried out to determine the degree of occupational burnout among managers of education department in Esfahan in 2008.140 managers were selected through random cluster sampling. Relevant data were collected using demographic questionnaire and Maslash burnout inventory. The findings revealed that 79% of the participants met study criteria for burnout, but not at the high rank. Female scored higher than male on the personal non-accomplishment subscale, married higher than single on the total score, 41-50 age group the least on the total score, 31-40 age group the highest on high depersonalization and personal non-accomplishment, and under 30 age group the highest on emotional exhaustion. Those who worked 11-20 years scored the highest on emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and 21-30 working years the least on total burnout, but none of the mentioned differences were significant. Managers with M.A significantly scored lower than B.A on depersonalization and personal non-accomplishment. The above mentioned findings imply paying more attention to the managers of education departments due to the importance of their role in society.
