Prediction of academic procrastination based on the experience of separation and loneliness in students

Abstract :
The purpose of the present study was to predict academic procrastination based on the experience of separation and feeling of loneliness among the students of Azad University, Roudhen branch in 2022. To achieve this goal, a statistical population consisting of 200 students of Psychology, Law and Language, Azad University, Roudhen Branch, was used as a multi-stage random sampling. To measure, Russell, Pilova and Courtena's loneliness questionnaire, Solomon's and Roth Bloom's academic procrastination questionnaire, and Carlos's and Putman's breakup experience questionnaire were used. Data analysis was done on two descriptive and inferential levels. Then it was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis and univariate regression using SPSS-26 software. The results showed there is a significant relationship between academic procrastination and loneliness. (P<0.01), there is also a significant relationship between the breakup experience and academic procrastination (P<0.05). According to the findings of the research, the feeling of loneliness component with a coefficient of β=2.4 and the experience of separation with a coefficient of β=143 have the ability to predict the variable of academic procrastination. The findings showed that the variables of uncertainty in work and external evaluation of goals are positive predictors of procrastination and variables of self-efficacy, interest in the field, organization are negative predictors of academic procrastination.
