مشکلات فلسفی جامعه مدرن از دغدغه‌های بسیاری از نمایشنامه‌نویسان بوده است. یکی از علل شهرت اکبر رادی در ادبیات ایران، پرداختن به چنین مسائلی است. در امریکا نیز سم شپرد یکی از فعالان شناخته‌شده در این امر به حساب می‌آید. پرسشگری درباره هویت انسان و فردیت وی و نیز در ارتباط شخصیت نمایشی با دیگران، رابطه وی با جامعه، آزادی و میل در بدست آوردن تمایلات، ازجمله موضوعاتی است که در نمایشنامه‌های شپرد و رادی دیده می‌شوند. این مقاله به بررسی این مفاهیمِ اگزیستانسیالیستی با مقایسه دو نمایشنامه غرب حقیقی و کودک مدفون‌ شپرد و شب روی سنگفرش خیس و لبخند باشکوه آقای گیل رادی می‌پردازد. در هر گروه از نمایشنامه‫ ها، نویسندگان به بازتاب عدم وجود هویت، اختلال در روابط با دیگران، امیال، مسئولیت‌های اجتماعی و آزادی عمل پرداخته ‫اند. با بررسی و مقایسه آثار منتخب این دو نویسنده خواهیم دید که در هر دو جامعۀ کاملاً متفاوت شرقی و غربی، وضعیت اجتماعی در بروز مفاهیم فلسفیِ اشاره ‌شده از جهات گوناگونی مشابه بوده و جز چند مورد استثنای قابل ‌بحث، کاملاً در یک راستا قرار می‌گیرند. این مقاله بر آن است که با بررسی تطبیقی این دو گروه نمایشنامه با نگرش به فلسفۀ اگزیستانسیالیستی ژان پل سارتر، و در پایان به اثباتِ از بین رفتن مفاهیم هویت، عدم توانایی در ایجاد ارتباط در جامعه، انزوا و از بین رفتن مفهوم آزادی در جامعه موجود در هر دو گروه از نمایشنامه‌ها بپردازد. هدف از نگارش این مقاله بررسی و مقایسه تطبیقی فلسفه اگزیستانسیالیسم در آثار منتخب رادی و شپرد و یافتن مضامین مشترک باوجود تفاوت‌های فرهنگی و جغرافیایی در آن‌ها می‌باشد. این تحقیق بر اساس مکتب ادبیات تطبیقی صورت گرفته است. استفاده از رویکرد تطبیقی در تحلیل آثار ادبی و نیز دیگر آثار هنری با یکدیگر، منجر به درک عمیق‌تر آثار و زدودن مرزهای موجود میان آثار ادبی و هنری می‌گردد. This paper adopted the Eco-feminism approach to explore Shell Shaker, solely filled with Native American settings and issues. So, both nature and the woman of the Native American context were the focus of the study. The researcher showed how the Native American women can be representative of the nature of their ancestral lands and identify with it. The main argument that the researcher intended to study was parallel roles of both women and natural land for Native American. To this purpose, theories and notions of several thinkers were exploited. The researcher found different scenes in the novel that show both aspects of nature which include the mentioned concepts. On ‘maternity’, the researcher depicted how nature is considered a source of giving life and existence to the world like women. On 'otherness', the researcher found how nature is marginalized and ignored just like women. In other words, it is shown nature, like women, is ‘other' and secondary in the society. It was shown how nature and culture are related. Besides, it was proved that there is a close relationship between women and nature that one can delve further into.
