Developing a Critical Checklist for Textbook Evaluation

This study has been carried out to develop a critical checklist for global/commercial textbookswhich play a crucial role in language teaching/learning. For this aim, a number of items have been developed based on a comprehensive review of the related literature and experts’ opinions. The tentative checklist was administered to the targeted population, yet 326 checklists were deemed appropriate for the analysis. The statistical analyses utilized in this study were exploratory factor analysis and partial confirmatory factor analysis. Prior to the exploratory factor analysis, a correlation analysis reduced the items into 44. Next, the exploratory factor analysis identified ten components. Additionally, six items were excluded from the checklist due to simultaneous factor loading and the finalized checklist was truncated into 38 items. To investigate the possibility for further validation studies, the result of partial confirmatory factor analysis was not statistically significant. Results of this study have the potentials to shed some lights on the ideological aspects of textbook evaluation.
ارزیابی کتاب نقش به سزایی در کلاس های زبان انگلیسی دارد. انتخاب کتاب های مناسب منجر به نگرانی برای برنامه ها و موسسه های آموزشی زبان شده است. بنابراین، تهیه یک پرسش نامه هدفمند برای برسی کتاب های زبان انگلیسی از منظر انتقادی بسیار مهم است. برای این هدف 44 سوال پس از مطالعات جامع در حوزه انتقادی زبانشناسی کاربردی و نظرهای کارشناسان این حوزه به دست آمد که توسط 326 معلم و محقق در رشته آموزش زبان انگلیسی مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. سپس فرایند آماری تحلیل عاملی اکتشافی فاکتور 10 جز در راستای سوالات مشخص کرد. همچنین تعداد 6 سوال به دلیل نتیجه کدگذاری هم پایه در تحلیل آماری فاکتور ها از پرسش نامه اصلی خارج شدند. برای بررسی های عمیق تردر زمینه روایی پرسشنامه، تحلیل نسبی اثباتی فاکتور موردآزمایش قرار گرفت که نتیجه های آن از لحاظ آماری معنا دار نبوده اند. نتایج این تحقیق نقش مهمی در ارزیابی ایدئولوژیکی کتاب های آموزش زبان انگلیسی در ایران دارد.
