Abstract :
Iranians and Armenians have lived together for about sixteen centuries throughout history and have had many political and cultural exchanges during this long period. But it is clear that the influence of Iranian culture, which began with the conquest of Armenia by Huvaxšatra, the king of the Medes (600 BC), continued centuries later in the Achaemenid, Seleucid periods, and the Parthian dynasty, and even to nowadays. This cultural influence diminished somewhat with the adoption of Christianity in the 3rd century, followed by the establishment of Christianity as the official religion of Armenia. However, its Iranian culture was so stable and rooted in this land, that its influence can still be seen in Armenian life. In this article, the author tries to draw a line between these cultural influences by looking at the social classes of Armenia, and the Iranian and Armenian Gods by examining Iranian loanwords in the Armenian language.
